“The cycle of sexual abuse has a beginning… does it have an end?
From sexual prey to sexual predator; rehabilitating kids who sexually offend”

In 2005, RSEA, in conjunction with Main Point Productions, produced a 28 minute documentary on our work with adolescent sex offenders entitled “Givin’ It Up” ("View The Trailer"). It was awarded Honorable Mention for Best Documentary at the 2005 New York International Independent Film and Video Festival and a Director’s Citation from the Black Mariah Film Festival at New Jersey University The film is available for  rental or purchase.

Givin’ It Up depicts the application of the RSOTS model in the SafeGuards program. Program participants discuss their sexual experiences and development of their offense cycle, what they have learned in treatment and their hopes for the future.

Program staff and international experts, such as Drs. James Worling, Howard Barbaree and Fred Berlin comment on the importance of treatment, the “mythical” belief in the ability to “tame the beast” through mandatory registration and the need for the application of science and medicine to the problem.

Representatives of the juvenile justice system, including the Berks County Pennsylvania President Judge discuss the challenge of  balancing community safety with rehabilitation.

Givin’ It Up offers a rare glimpse into the reality of adolescent sex offenders and the experiences of professionals working to end the cycle of sexual exploitation.
